The battery will hold a high voltage, until near the end of it's life, then drop quickly. A quartz watch or clock will begin to stop or run erratic after a battery reaches 1.35 volts or lower. This battery may still look bright in a flashlight, but it is becoming too low for quartz. With this meter, you can tell exactly the voltage.
